NORTHUMBRIA Police have urged the public not to become complacent over the bank holiday weekend.

The force is reminding people to stick to the recommended guidelines after the recent easing of lockdown restrictions.

New guidance from Westminster allows people to travel to exercise and to meet up with one other person from a different household.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "We would ask everyone to continue to follow the modified regulations which came into force last week - they are in place to help protect us all from the spread of coronavirus and ultimately to save lives."

Meanwhile, Northumberland County Council urges the public "to stay home as much as possible" following reports of a visitors flocking to local beauty spots as the weather improves.
