A COMMUNITY arts organisation has been awarded lottery funding to support the work it does with elderly and rurally isolated communities.

Not for profit arts group, Green Croft Arts, based at Green Croft on the Wall at Gilsland, has received a £9,800 funding package from the National Lottery Community Fund.

The funds will help deliver the Keeping You Moving initiative, a range of free accessible and inclusive movement and wellbeing activities to help keep the elderly, vulnerable and most isolated people moving during lockdown.

The project aims to support the health and wellbeing of those most vulnerable either in their own homes or back into the community when further lockdown measures are lifted.

Chair yoga and ‘mindful movement’ sessions were currently being offered free of charge online.

Green Croft director Amanda Drago said she hoped the inclusive and accessible classes would support those that needed it most, provide structure to their week and offer social interaction with others.

“We are passionate about funding great ideas that matter to communities and make a difference to people’s lives,” she said.

“At the heart of everything we do is the belief that when people are in the lead, communities thrive.

“We’re delighted that the National Lottery Community Fund has responded so quickly to the needs of people particularly rural communities during this time. With thanks to National Lottery players, we will be able to support those most in need whilst adapting our business during this unique time.”
