THE district's premier beer festival will not go ahead in 2020.

Organisers of Tynedale Beer and Cider Festival at Tynedale Rugby Club in Corbridge had hoped they could postpone the four-day event until later in the year.

However, a statement from the committee admitted defeat and said the uncertainty around when lockdown restrictions would be fully lifted had left it with no other choice but to look ahead to 2021.

The line-up of live music and food stalls had been finalised for the 2020 festival, and it was hoped that those included would be able to attend next year's event.

A statement from the festival committee said: "Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the organising committee has decided that it will not be possible to hold the festival this year.

"It is being postponed for 2020 and will now take place from Thursday, June 17 to Sunday, June 20 2021.

"Whilst we are all disappointed to have to make this announcement, we see no alternative under the circumstances. Our aim for 2021 will be to deliver the festival that was planned for this year, so subject to availability, we will have the same bands and caterers as advertised, as well as the fantastic range of beers, ciders and other refreshments.

"We hope that you are all keeping well and look forward to welcoming you to a great celebration festival in June 2021."
