A FARM tool believed to be from medieval times has been unearthed in undergrowth close to Hadrian’s Wall.
Clare Watson’s father discovered the ancient artefact, believed to be a trowel, near her home at Twice Brewed, near Bardon Mill.
She said: “My father who was rummaging through undergrowth near our house when it came to the surface.
“As Vindolanda is so close, I thought I would email to see if it knew anything about it.
“I got a reply from the chief executive Dr Andrew Birley who said, although it doesn’t look like it’s Roman, it could possibly be from the medieval times.”
Clare said it was likely to be a farm tool as the land near to where it was found used to be the site of a working farm.
