A MAN is due to appear in court on suspicion of drink driving after a crash on the A68.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said the force received a report of a one-vehicle collision on the A68 near Byrness at around 12.45am on Thursday, May 7.

Emergency services attended, but found the occupant of the vehicle had already left the scene.

“Officers subsequently carried out a search of the area, with support from the National Police Air Service and a 29-year-old man was located,” the spokesman added.

“He was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol and has since been released under investigation.

“The man has also been charged with a public order offence in connection with the same incident. He is due to appear before South East Northumberland Magistrates’ Court on July 2.”
