THREE bridges in Tynedale will be repaired as part of a £5m project to repair structures throughout Northumberland.
The bridges over the B6319 at Haydon Bridge, the C202 at Redesmouth and the C254 at Wylam River Tyne are among the eight identified by Northumberland County Council to be fully repainted and repaired.
The project is being carried out after the council was successful in a £3.7m bid from the Department for Transport to carry out work on the 'high value' steel bridges, to complement a further £1.1m designated by the local authority.
Design work on the repair work is due to start this month.
The £4.8m was originally due to be spent on the bridge works over 2019 and 2020, however, it will now be split into half over the current financial year and in 2021-22. The county council's cabinet formally accepted the government grant when it met virtually on Tuesday.
