FOOTBALLERS at a Tynedale club are flying the flag in support of NHS workers putting themselves on the frontline during the coronavirus pandemic.
Haydon Bridge United, which has various junior teams and an adult team playing in the Hexham and District Sunday League, has installed a flag bearing the NHS initials at their Low Hall Park ground.
The flag includes the rainbow colours to complement the trend of people producing rainbows and placing them in their windows to show support to key workers and share messages of hope during difficult times.
Club secretary Avril Kirsopp and her husband David, the club’s long serving groundsman, purchased the flag to show that footballers were very grateful to the work the NHS is doing in challenging conditions.
David said: “We have a flag pole so we thought we would get a flag to show our support to the NHS. It looks lovely up there and it’s nice because you can see it from all over; it’s one of the first things you see as you approach the village from the A69 and you can see it in the village.”
