KEEN gardeners in a Hexhamshire village did not let the lockdown prevent them taking part in an annual tradition.

At Easter time, families in and around Whitley Chapel usually meet with Rev. Andrew Patterson, of St. Helens Church, to create an Easter garden.

Due to social distancing restrictions brought in because of the coronavirus, the event was unable to go ahead as planned this year.

But Rev. Patterson asked those who still wanted to take part in the event to send him pictures of their own Easter gardens, created at home, so he could share them with other residents - making sure the community could still go ahead with its yearly project.

The idea was popular with residents, and saw around a dozen impressive garden pictures shared among them.
