AN AWARD-WINNING brewery has launched a beer box to keep customers topped up during lockdown.
First and Last Brewery, in Elsdon, near Otterburn, has created the Northumberland Breweries Beer Box, showcasing some of the region’s best craft beers, in a bid to support other local micro-breweries.
Sam Kellie, who runs First and Last Brewery with his wife Red, who helped to launch Stu Brew, Europe’s first student brewery at Newcastle University, said: “We wanted to make the box to raise the profile of Northumberland brewers.
“We have always been community focused, producing beers that give back, including the Ratty pale ale, which is in collaboration with Northumberland Wildlife Trust. The brewery industry is really tight knit, we all share the same passions and philosophies as small Northumberland independent businesses, so we wanted to pull together to support craft beer.
“We also wanted to help other breweries, who don’t necessarily have a route to market. We were lucky as we already had a webshop,” he added.
The box includes a selection of 12 beers, which have been handpicked from breweries, including Muckle Brewery, in Haltwhistle, Twice Brewed Brewery, on Hadrian’s Wall and Grounding Angel Brewery, in Hexham. There is no charge for delivery for customers across most of Northumberland.
Mr Kellie added: “We hope to start the concept in Northumberland and see where we go.”
