POLICE have launched an investigation after a cyclist was seriously injured after being knocked off his bike.

The 57-year-old man was knocked off his bike on Tuesday while riding northbound on the B6295, between Allenheads and Sinderhope.

Emergency services were called at 3.40pm and the man was taken to hospital with serious injuries to his head and spine.

An investigation has been launched and police are now keen for anyone who might have seen what happened to come forward to assist officers.

Sergeant Matt Sykes, of Northumbria Police’s motor patrols department, said: “This was a serious incident which has left a man suffering with injuries to his head and spine.

“We have already spoken to a number of people but would urge anyone who has yet to come forward to do so.

“We would also like to hear from anybody who was in the area around that time and who might have dashcam footage.”
