Workers at one of the district’s largest employers featured in a national TV comercial which thanked NHS staff for their work during the coronavirus crisis.

Staff from the Essity paper mill, in Prudhoe, came together to #ClapForOurCarers in an advertisement screened on Channel 4 News last Thursday.

The group joined 39 other well-known TV advertisers, including Co-op and Marks and Spencer, to show its appreciation to NHS staff working on the frontline.

As part of the national initiative, workers on the plant’s Cushelle production line spelt out ‘thank you’ to healthcare workers using packets of paper towels and toilet rolls.

An Essity spokesman said: “It was great to show our appreciation for healthcare workers by supporting this UK-wide social movement that also saw people in their homes joining in the applause from windows, balconies and doorsteps.

“Although a number of our administrative staff are working from home where they can, we still a have a large percentage of our workforce coming into the mill everyday to produce Tork hand towels for the NHS and loo rolls for the rest of us. And, this was something we were all really keen to get involved in.”
