A NEW Covid-19 support service has been set up for people who have learning disabilities and autism.

Cumbrian charity People First, based in Carlisle and Workington, has been working with NHS England and other partner organisations, on the Keeping People Connected project, to put in place a dedicated support service for people with the conditions.

The service includes check and chat calls from specialist staff who will help with issues like wellbeing, food, medication, support needs, safety and ensure understanding of the lockdown situation.

A spokesman said "It’s our duty to protect the most vulnerable in our society, this new service can do that."
