A CHARITY is inviting children to bunny hop to raise vital funds in the fight against cancer.

Lymphoma Action is asking children to ‘leap for lymphoma’ from their homes to raise money for the only charity in the UK dedicated to supporting people affected by the condition.

Children are being asked to decorate their own bunny ears, collect sponsorship money online and bunny hop to support the charity and raise awareness of lymphoma as the fifth most common cancer in the UK.

The idea originally came from Sue Hartley, a Manchester-based yoga and mindfulness trainer for young children and co-founder of Yoginis Yoga Training Ltd.

Prior to the recent closure of schools, she encouraged a number of primary schools and nurseries that she was working with to take part.

The children she worked with were jumping their bunny hops 27 times to mark the fact that every 27 minutes, someone is diagnosed with lymphoma.

Sue’s activities raised over £700 for Lymphoma Action, and she wanted to raise awareness of the condition and the work of the charity. as it is a cause close to her heart, after losing her husband to the disease last year.

“I really wanted to help others who are going through a similar situation” Sue said.

“I also think it is really important to raise awareness of the condition amongst young people.

“By taking part in an activity like this, children now have an awareness of blood cancer that they will take with them as they grow into young adults.”

Lymphoma Action was so impressed by the idea that it is now rolling it out as a home-based fund-raising activity across the country in time for Easter.

Sarah Thorn, community and partnerships manager at Lymphoma Action, said: “Leap for lymphoma is such a fantastic idea. It’s a fun and easy activity for young children to take part in, and encourages them to get creative and stay active whilst they are at home.

“Not only does it help raise funds for us to continue our work, but it also increases awareness around lymphoma and the work we do as a charity to support those affected by the condition.

“We are so grateful to Sue for her efforts and support of our work in making sure that no one has to face lymphoma alone.”
