EVERYBODY loves a takeaway, whether it's the classic British classic fish and chips, kebab, Chinese, pizza or Indian.

But the Coronavirus lockdown has put pay to many people's weekly treat as scores fast food outlets temporarily closed down to stop the virus from spreading.

So this week we asked readers of The Whitehaven News on Facebook to give their views on the takeaways they are most looking forward to visiting after the pandemic.

Here in Cumbria we’re blessed with plenty of choice with some establishments being firm favourites.

So, in no particular order, here are the best takeaways in the Whitehaven area voted by you the readers.

1 NOAH'S PLAICE, COLERIDGE DRIVE, EGREMONT

2 HEAVENLY FISH AND CHICKEN, MARKET PLACE, WHITEHAVEN

Another very popular choice with readers waxing lyrical about what the chippy has to offer..

The chippy announced it was closing down to rideout the Coronavirus lockdown on March 23 but hopes to be open again as soon as it is safe to do so.

Nevertheless it's been missed by residents.

Claire Blaney described what the chippy had to offer as "amazing".

Karen Doran said: "They are the best in town."

3 THE VAGABOND, MARLBOROUGH STREET, WHITEHAVEN

Reader, Deb Pearson has raved about the pizza' at the popular pub which range from the Korean BBQ Beef to the might 12in Hangover pizza, which includes marinated beef, skinny chips, garlic and rocket salad.

She said: "Vagabond Pizzas and salads as well as their super friendly quick delivery service - best in Whitehaven no other comes close."

4 ISTANBUL PIZZA AND KEBAB HOUSE, MAIN STREET, EGREMONT

The town centre shop proved a hit with reader Kayren Kare who said that Istanbul was "the best takeaway in town".

The owners announced the closure of the shop on Friday after the Government announcement.

Like others they have again vowed to open as soon as it is safe to do so.

5 GREGGS, MAIN STREET, EGREMONT

The bakery chain is one of a swath of stores that announced its temporary closure on Friday.

But this has not stopped pangs for its sausage rolls, steak bakes.
