A MAN will appear at crown court accused of carrying a machete through Hexham town centre on New Year’s Eve.
Paul Raj Walton (43), of Priestlands Road, Hexham, appeared at South East Northumberland Magistrates’ Court last Thursday charged with possessing an article which had a blade or pointed edge.
It is alleged Walton had the machete in his possession at Hexham Market Place on December 31.
Magistrates sent the case to Newcastle Crown Court, to be heard on April 20. No plea was entered during last week’s hearing.
