WORK to upgrade the A69 roundabout at Hexham will continue despite the coronavirus outbreak.

Many businesses were forced to close following Boris Johnson's announcement that the UK would be going into lockdown from Monday evening.

But work at Bridge End roundabout is set to continue, with Highways England hoping to complete the work as soon as possible.

A Highways England spokesman said: “Roadworks affect all journeys which is why it is important they are completed as quickly as possible.

“Our roads remain open and we will continue to maintain the network, ensuring that life-saving medicine, equipment, supplies and healthcare staff can travel to where they are needed most.”

The work was due to be completed in March 2021.
