SOME rail services on the Tyne Valley line have been cancelled as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Northern Trains announced that, on Monday, March 23, there will be no trains running on the Newcastle to Carlisle FAST services and Middlesbrough to Newcastle / Hexham via Hartlepool will not run.

The rail operator said the Carlisle to Newcastle service will be reinstated.

At this time, there are no restrictions on rail and public transport travel, but the Government are asking for the general public to reduce this where possible.

On Tuesday, Northern Trains, in line with the rest of the industry, will introduce a temporary timetable.

A spokesman for Northern said: "We have a robust plan in place for cleaning our trains. This includes the removal of litter throughout the day and to ensure all surfaces are cleaned on a regular basis.

"On-board our trains and at stations, where facilities exist, there is soap and water available in our toilets for customers to follow NHS advice to wash their hands for 20 seconds."
