A NATIONWIDE campaign has been launched to show appreciation for NHS workers on the frontline of the fight again the Coronavirus.

Its aim is have a massive round of applause on Thursday, March 26, at 8pm - whether it's in your garden, from a window or balcony.

The campaign is being run by #clapforourcarers and the message has been shared millions of times on social media.

Similar campaigns have been staged in European countries that have been hard hit by the virus - including Spain, France and the Netherlands.

The campaign website states: "It's to get everyone to clap for everyone that works in the frontline, doctors, nurses doctors, pharmacists and EVERYONE related at the frontline."

Fightfighter Paul Dean, the watch manager at Carlisle West Community Fire Station, is supporting the campaign.

He said: "Obviously we support everything these carers do, absolutely, it just shows an appreciation of what they are doing in the circumstances."
