CREATIVE pupils will strut their stuff on the catwalk wearing wedding dresses with a twist.

‘A’ level pupils at Haydon Bridge High School have teamed up with Hexham business Hats and Glad Rags ahead of the school’s creative arts evening at the end of the month.

The textiles students have worked with the business’s owner Patricia Barnes to design 30 dynamic and creative wedding dresses for the theme of ‘twisted fairytales featuring Day of the Dead Wedding celebration’.

At a fashion show, to be held on Thursday, March 26, the dresses will be worn during a choreographed catwalk performance.

Year 6 pupils at Shaftoe Wise Academy, also in Haydon Bridge, will open the performance in costume and make-up, performing a Day of the Dead dance to complement the brides, who will also be wearing dramatic make up to continue the theme.

In addition, other models and staff will also be wearing mother of the bride and groom fashion from Hats and Glad Rags on the catwalk.

Anna Coulson, faculty leader for performance at Haydon Bridge High School, said: “Working alongside a local business has inspired our students, seeing how exciting the creative industry can be and the possibilities it holds for their futures.”

Mrs Barnes said: "The pupils obviously have very good imaginations because the dresses now look nothing like they originally did.

"It was great to work with the pupils and see their fabulous ideas and enthusiasm."
