AN event will be held in Ponteland to discuss what can and can’t be recycled.

However, there was much debate at Ponteland Town Council’s meeting last Wednesday over whether there should be one or two meetings.

The idea for a recycling session, which would be held at the town’s memorial hall with the support of Northumberland County Council, was brought before members by Coun. Alan Hall.

Coun. Hall said: “It would hopefully improve the quality of the stuff that goes in the public bins.

“You don’t realise the mistakes we make as residents.”

But concerns were raised over the plan for two meetings, given the cost of hiring out the hall and the fact that it could be difficult to attract residents to such an event.

Eventually, the council agreed to hold one event as a trial and look at hosting more in the future if it was a success.
