THE people of Hexham are expected to be heading to the polls next month to vote on a plan which sets out a vision for development in the town.

Hexham Neighbourhood Plan was submitted last year and, at this month’s Hexham Town Council meeting, mayor of Hexham Bob Hull said it had been approved by an independent examiner which had been appointed by Northumberland County Council.

He said there were small changes which had been suggested which the county council was trying to take on board, with the next stage of the process to be a town-wide referendum on the plan. It sets out a vision for the town and once it has been adopted, any new development that requires planning permission must be assessed against its policies and it will become part of the statutory development plan.

It is planned that the referendum will take place on April 23.
