AN UP-AND-COMING cellist is heading to Tynedale to mark the anniversary of a famous musical piece of music.

The winner of several international prizes, Indira Grier will perform at Corbridge Middle School on Saturday in a concert celebrating 101 years of Elgar’s Cello Concerto.

The concert, to take place at 7.30pm, is being organised by Tynedale Orchestra for its annual March concert.

Jane Hoyle, the orchestra’s secretary, said: “We are so lucky to have a young soloist from London to perform with us, Indira Grier.

“It is a fantastic opportunity to see a wonderful professional cellist play such a well known concerto in the Tyne Valley.

“This is probably the most popular and well-known work in the entire cello repertoire.

“It was famously the signature performance of the cellist Jacqueline Du Pre.”
