AN 87-YEAR-OLD motorist was taken to hospital with serious injuries following a road collision on Thursday.
Northumbria Police were called to the scene of a crash involving a lorry and a car on the B6309 at New Ridley, near Stocksfield, just after 1pm.
A police spokeswoman said the 87-year-old driver of the car was hospitalised with serious injuries.
The road was closed until later that evening while emergency services cleared the scene.
