A PRUDHOE woman has raised more than £700 after having her hair shaved off in support of a cancer charity.

Margaret Gaut had her locks chopped off at John’s Hairdressers on Front Street in the town last Saturday.

The money raised will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Margaret, who is 72 next month, braved the shave in support of her brother-in-law, who is battling prostate cancer.

She said: “I’ve still got a canny bit of hair, but I’m going out with a hat on because of the cold!

“Macmillan are fantastic.

“It’s just something I thought I would do. My brother-in-law has prostate cancer and my sister had breast cancer.

“She’s been clear for about 14 years, and it’s her husband. He’s currently waiting for some test results. Everybody has been very supportive, I’ve had people just come up to me in the street.

“People are great – there’s more nice people in the world than horrible ones.”
