A WELL-KNOWN Prudhoe couple have opened a new shop that fills a gap in the Tynedale market.

Seamus Kelleher and his wife Holly, who are both local runners and athletics coaches, have opened Run Unlimited at Low Prudhoe.

The specialist running store will stock meticulously selected brands to enhance running performance, with the products available in store ones used and recommended by Holly and Seamus themselves.

The couple are involved in several races in the town – Seamus is race director for the junior parkrun, while Holly is also the director of Prudhoe Miner’s Race, which attracted around 450 runners last October despite falling foul of torrential rain. She also organised the Prudhoe Easter Egg Run.

Seamus explained why they chose to open the store, which is the only specialist running store in Tynedale.

He said: “We were very involved in the running community, and we always thought it was a type of business that was lacking in the area.

“We felt there was a lack of proper running shops in the area, so we decided to go for it.

“The support from the community has been excellent – everybody has been really positive.”

The shop has already had a so-called ‘soft opening’ last month, but everything is being prepared for a grand opening on Saturday.

The poor weather over the last few weeks has made it difficult for stock to reach the store, but Seamus added that things were now all set.

He continued: “We’re looking at March 7 – we’ve been busy working on that date with the brands that we’re stocking. We’ve got stuff arriving all the time.”

It’s hoped that the addition to Prudhoe’s retail offering will keep shoppers in the town, rather than heading further afield.
