A TYNE Valley school has received an award from the woodland trust in recognition of its involvement with green activities.

Mowden Hall School, in Newton, received a Gold Award Green Tree School for planting trees, reducing carbon emissions, recycling, and taking part in activities in woodland areas.

Kirsten Knight from the school said: “The children from nursery upwards are outside for much of their day.

“All children here at Mowden have thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Green Tree award activities.”

Karen Letten, Woodland Trust schools and communities engagement manager, said: “The achievements of the school are recognised through an awards scheme in which they receive points for taking part in activities. I hope Mowden Hall School will now consider going for our next accolade, the prestigious platinum award.”
