POLICE have issued a warning to residents in the Allen Valleys following reports of a suspicious vehicle in the area.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said a White Ford Transit van was reported in the Allendale area on Wednesday morning.
“It was reported that a man had attended a number of properties asking for scrap metal and if any Labrador dogs were for sale," the spokesman said.
“Inquiries into the incident are ongoing and we would encourage any pet owners in the area to remain vigilant."
The spokesman added that a mobile collector’s licence had to be displayed on any vehicle that was being used in the course of the business and could be easily read by a person outside the vehicle.
If a mobile collector's licence was not issued by Northumberland County Council, they were not able to collect scrap in the Northumberland area.
