STRONG WINDS and heavy rainfall damaged a part of the roof at Hexham’s Wentworth Leisure Centre last week.

Council workers were at the facility earlier this week to repair the damage. An area of disabled and two-hour parking bays opposite the centre’s main entrance were unavailable while the work took place.

A spokeswoman for Northumberland County Council said: “During the bad weather last Tuesday, a section of the edge of the roof came off during the night.”

The spokeswoman also confirmed that the roof had been repaired by the council earlier this week.

Elsewhere in Tynedale, the area of Station Road, Prudhoe, near to the railway station and the Adam and Eve pub flooded again last week after heavy rain.

The area experienced the same fate multiple times last year with residents calling on the county council to take action.

The council said it was assessing how to mitigate the problem in the future.
