THE Wark and District Royal British Legion celebrated entering its 99th year at its annual dinner last Friday.
The Legion’s 48 members gathered at Wark Town Hall, and were joined by the Royal British Legion Northumbria president, Eric Ingram MBE Deputy Lieutenant, who presented three certificates of appreciation to local members who were commended for their dedication and effort.
Dennis Grugan (90) received a county certificate reflecting his 62 years on the Wark Branch Committee, of which he served as chairman for 18 years and 17 as secretary having joined prior to May 1957.
Peter Dover received a branch certificate for 51 years on the committee, of which 33 years are as branch standard bearer.
Judith Weir also received a branch certificate for 23 years of work as secretary, having been a member since 1991.
