WATER supplies to properties in Hexham have been affected because of a burst pipe.

Northumbrian Water was made aware of the problem in the Causey Hill Road area of the town just after 5.30am on Wednesday.

A spokeswoman for Northumbrian Water said: “Our crews attended immediately and are currently working to contain the burst and move water around the network so that we can restore water supplies to the properties affected.

“Once this is done, we will begin repairing the pipe and temporary traffic lights are in place for safety reasons while this work is underway.

“We’d like to apologise for the inconvenience this has caused to our customers in the area, and thank them for their patience and understanding while we get things back to normal. Updates can be found on our twitter feed @nwater_care."
