THE former owners of a popular tourist camping spot have launched a new tipi business.

Steve Dunwell, who took over the Herding Hill Farm glamping site in October 2010 when it was a farm shop and tea room, helped expand the site to become a camping hot spot for visitors.

Now, event staging expert Steve and his wife have set up their next business venture – Big Day Event Tipis. The company was born from the pair’s love of unique spaces with jaw-dropping details and a devotion to the great outdoors.

Originally from Yorkshire, the couple moved to Northumberland with a passion for creating a high quality glamping business.

After nine successful years, the pair felt it was time to utilise their experience and skills by moving into the special event industry.Their wealth of experience has also helped them become experts in event staging and project planning.

“Herding Hill Farm was a fabulous site, and we’re really proud of what we did there,” Steve said. “Now we’re using the skills we have got to create this new business.

"It seemed like a good opportunity to work with the tipis for weddings, corporate events and parties.”

“In the North-East there’s only about four other companies that specialise in Tipis like we do so we often have a lot of business throughout Tynedale, but also in the wider region.”

Protecting the environment is also at the forefront of the business policy, and its use of ethically-made tipis from Sweden have help them stamp their mark on the events industry.

The business also provides professional event and hospitality advice and service, and they’re currently liaising with sports teams and venues throughout the district.

“We get a lot of our business in the summer, but we’re also looking to do Christmas parties as well as events like Bonfire Night.”
