A ROAD had to be closed overnight after high winds blew the roof off a building.
Police were alerted after an alarm was activated at a premises on Princess Way in Prudhoe on the evening of January 30. Nobody was injured in the incident. The roof also caused damage to an electrical substation, leaving 2,375 homes without power.
A spokesman for Northern Powergrid said that 2,317 customers had their power restored within seven minutes. Remaining customers had power by 11.10am the next day.
