MUSIC fans in the North-East will relive the world’s most iconic fund-raising concert to help raise money for a Tynedale schoolboy battling a brain tumour.

Inspired by Live Aid, a concert featuring tribute acts from performers such as Queen, U2, The Police, David Bowie, Phil Collins and Status Quo, will take place in Saltwell Park, in Gateshead, on Saturday, August 15.

A percentage of proceeds from the event, Live Like 85, will go to the concert’s official charity partners, including Team Oliver set up in the name of five-year-old Oliver Macklam, of Stocksfield, who is battling an Ependymoma tumour, a rare type of the illness which affects only 30 to 40 people in the UK each year.

The charity supports the children’s neuroscience and paediatric oncology units at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, and families and children facing battles with cancer.

The event is the brainchild of friends Mike Morley, David Hearth, Scott Hannah and Jon Besant who wanted to raise funds for Oliver and other sick children like him in the region.

Mr Morley said: “We’re delighted to be launching Live Like 85 here in the North-East, especially in such a beautiful outdoor space like Saltwell Park.

“We must thank Gateshead Council for the support it has given us.

“Live Aid was a truly incredible day in music history and we want to take festival goers back to that iconic day at Wembley Stadium in July 1985.”

The organisers of Live Like 85 are expecting up to 10,000 people to attend, subject to licensing.

In addition to the line-up of tribute acts, there will be Kroud Karaoke, food stalls, face painting, 1980s-themed merchandise and a VIP area for those that hate the queues for festival toilets.

Early bird tickets for the 10-hour event have gone on sale today on the event’s website at www.livelike85.com.

Live Like 85 will proceed a family-friendly festival planned for Saltwell Park the following day.

Little Big Fest will feature more modern day artists, including tribute acts to Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, Little Mix and Dua Lipa.

Tickets for the event will go on sale on February 28.
