A COMMUNITY respite care bed in Corbridge, which has provided a lifeline to families who need it most, has received a cash boost.

Over £1,240 was raised when the team at the Angel of Corbridge held a charity quiz night which was well supported by local people – so much so it was sold out.

A fish and chip supper was served for all participants and the quiz master, Alistair Jenkins, set some brilliant and challenging questions.

After a closely fought competition, the Quoits Batters team emerged as the winners.

Sally Urwin, marketing coordinator for the Charlotte Straker Project, said: “Thank you to all those who came to the sold out charity quiz night at the Angel of Corbridge last week.

“Thanks to the generosity of the Angel and the quiz attendees, £1,240 was raised for the Charlotte Straker Project’s Community Respite Care Bed.

“Many, many thanks to Kevin Laing, managing director at the Angel Inn, for hosting the event and all the staff who were so helpful and accommodating.”

The respite care bed was first launched four years ago and £46,500 needs to be raised each year to cover the running costs.
