A COMMUNITY hub in Prudhoe has been handed a funding boost thanks to shoppers at Asda.

The Miners Lamp Cafe was the latest good cause to benefit from the Asda Foundation’s green token programme.

The cafe received received the most votes and from customers of the supermarket and was awarded £1,000.

The foundation supports grass roots organisations through a number of initiatives. The green token programme allows customers to vote for their favourite good cause.

County councillor Gordon Stewart, who represents Prudhoe South, said: “We’re really grateful to everyone who chose the Miners Lamp Community Hub for their green token scheme while shopping at Asda.

“The money will make such a difference to our work, especially for the benefit of children and young people who enjoy our park."
