HUNDREDS of people attended an event at Hexham Abbey to learn more about new developments in the town.

The showcase event was organised by the Hexham Hub – a partnership between Northumberland County Council, Hexham Town Council, and Hexham Community Partnership.

Developers set up stands to talk about their plans for key sites in the town, including Union Properties for the Bunker on Alemouth Road and Hexham Wool Warehouse Ltd about the old Hexham Swimming Pool on Gilesgate.

Meanwhile, the charity StopGap showcased the scheme they are working on with housing association Karbon Homes to transform the Links building on Haugh Lane.

The county council and Hadrian Learning Trust also presented a model of the new Hexham Middle School and high school to be built on the site of the current Queen Elizabeth High School.

Organisers said they were pleased with how the event went.

Hexham County Councillor Cath Homer said: “The turnout for the event was fantastic, and we have received a lot of very positive feedback about it.

“People seemed to be extremely pleased to be able to find out more about what is going on in their town, and there were a lot of constructive views and comments made.”

Peter Rodger from Hexham Community Partnership added: “We would like to thank everyone who came to the event for their time, interest and feedback.”
