EMERGENCY services have been called to a suspected gas leak in Penrith.

A total of three fire engines were sent to Southend Road, Penrith at 10.50am on Sunday after reports of a gas leak.

A spokesman from Cumbria Fire and Rescue said: "Crews evacuated a building and checked for signs of gas using two breathing apparatus and gas monitoring equipment.

"Crews were in attendance for about an hour and forty minutes."
