THREE residents of the Tyne Valley have been fined for not paying their rail fares.

At Newcastle Magistrates’ Court last Thursday, Katrina Brown (43), of Greenholme Road, Haltwhistle, Callum Crozier (24), of Synclen Avenue, Corbridge, and Lee Robert Charlton (38), of Gordon Terrace, Prudhoe, were all fined for travelling without payment last year.

Brown was fined £220 and ordered to pay compensation of £7, court costs of £150 and a victim surcharge of £32 after it was proved in her absence that she travelled between Hexham and Haltwhistle on August 22 without paying the £7 fare.

Crozier was fined £146 and ordered to pay compensation of £6.50, court costs of £150 and a victim surcharge of £32 after he pleaded guilty to not paying £6.50 to travel between Newcastle and Corbridge on July 1.

A fine of £60 was imposed on Charlton, who was also ordered to pay compensation of £5.60, court costs of £75 and a victim surcharge of £30.

It was proved in his absence that he travelled between Newcastle and Prudhoe on June 19 without payment.
