THE generosity of customers to a popular farm shop and tea room has benefited a charity to the tune of £7,500.

Members of charity Daft as a Brush Cancer Patient Care headed to Brocksbushes, situated just off the Styford roundabout on the A69 near Corbridge, to collect a cheque for a total of £7,595.95.

The farm shop and tea room chose the charity as its charity to support throughout 2019, with customers donating cash when they visited the business.

Daft as a Brush was started by Brian Burnie, who co-owned Kelburn Holdings in Newcastle, to provide transport patients with cancer to and from hospital appointments free of charge. Mr Burnie is currently walking the coastline of the UK to encourage more regions to follow suit.

Harry Dickinson, general manager of Brocksbushes, said 'We are thrilled that the fund-raising efforts of our staff and customers have resulted in such a fantastic amount being raised for our charity of the year, Daft As A Brush.

"As a family-run company, supporting important local services such as the ones Daft as a Brush provide is extremely important to us. The generosity of our customers is overwhelming - we couldn't do it without their support."

The management team at Brocksbushes received a certificate of thanks.

Donations are still being accepted for the charity at the farm shop and tea room.
