HEXHAM’S MP took the opportunity to pay tribute to NHS staff during parliament’s recent recess.

Conservative MP Guy Opperman, who was re-elected to serve the Hexham constituency for a fourth term on December 12, visited Hexham General Hospital during the festive period.

He met with members of staff to get an update on activity at the hospital over the winter months, and to thank them for their hard work.

Mr Opperman said: “We have so many dedicated public sector workers here in the Tyne Valley, many of whom work through the festive period and over new year. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to those who work in emergency services and urgent care. I was delighted to be able to chat with some of those staff at Hexham Hospital, to get a winter update from the hospital matron and to meet some of Tynedale’s newest residents in the maternity unit.”
