ROAD closures will be in place on the A69 as part of a £30m investment which will see changes to Hexham's Bridge End roundabout.

Highways England will be installing traffic management to begin the roadworks on Monday, January 27.

This means that the following road closures will be in place:

• A69 eastbound between Acomb and Stagshaw, overnight from 8pm to 6am on Tuesday, January 28 and Wednesday, January 29.

• A69 westbound between Stagshaw and Hexham west end, overnight from 8pm to 6am on Monday, January 27 and Thursday, January 30.

During these closures, and due to the layout of the Acomb junction where no right turn will be available, the traffic travelling west to Carlisle will travel via signed routes to Greenhead where they will rejoin the A69.

Also during the closures, all Hexham-bound traffic will rejoin the A69 at Acomb via signed diversions and travel eastbound up to Bridge End roundabout and into Hexham.

Traffic leaving Hexham to travel west will be diverted eastbound to Stagshaw, then up onto the diversion route to head west. The Hexham west junction will remain open.

Clearly signed diversions will be in place and local access to Hexham will be retained at all times.

A spokeswoman for Highways England said: "Safety is our top priority and we are continuing to work closely with parish councillors, the police and Northumberland County Council as we progress this work."
