WORK to improve the Bridge End roundabout in Hexham, as part of a £30m A69 improvement scheme, is due to start this month.

Highways England said overnight lane closures would start from Monday, January 27.

The roundabout is due to reopen in March, 2021.

While the overnight lane closures are in place, Highways England said work will start on the construction of the turnarounds and the mainline carriageway.

Two lanes will be used to approach the roundabout from Newcastle, with one lane dedicated to turning into Hexham and the other for turning right or through-traffic. There will also be two lanes approaching the roundabout from Carlisle towards Hexham, with one dedicated to turning right towards Hexham and the other for through-traffic.

The turnarounds are due to be completed this summer when they will come into operation.

Once work on Bridge End is started, Highways England said it will revisit plans for the Styford roundabout, presenting options to the public for consultation.

Highways England confirmed it had already completed cabling, services diversions and additional investigation work into the new roundabout.
