Northumberland’s new adult learning prospectus, has just been published, providing hundreds of opportunities to gain new skills at centres right across the county.

Adults are being offered the chance to improve their job prospects or train in a new discipline, thanks to Northumberland County Council’s new spring brochure.

A series of new courses has been included this year covering skills based classes, job-related training, apprenticeships and employability improvement.

The prospectus includes details of over 300 courses which will be held at the council’s 11 adult learning centres across the county.

Coun. Wayne Daley, cabinet member with responsibility for adult learning at the council said: “In 2019 our learning and skills service helped thousands of people onto adult learning courses, apprenticeships and into work, and this year we want to help even more.

“This prospectus has a strong focus on skills for work, with many of the courses designed to prepare people for the job opportunities within Northumberland.

“Similarly we’ve not forgotten people’s passion for learning for leisure and pleasure so there are new opportunities to get involved in developing your talents.

“I urge people to take a look, to see if there is a course that will help them to improve their future job prospects – or simply to enjoy learning a new skill. Learning is a life-long journey.”

From beginners to seasoned students, young mums to jobseekers or retirees, the programme of courses is wide and varied.

The spring prospectus includes a range of free, short courses including in digital skills, English and maths and also personal skills that will help people get ready for the world of work.

Specialist courses can prepare people for working in education, health and care; hairdressing and beauty; catering; and construction and engineering.

As well as employability and education, health and care courses, it includes arts and leisure activities from drawing to dressmaking, and an extensive programme of languages, including Italian, Japanese, Latin and Russian.
