HEXHAM’S first eco fair has been hailed a huge success.

The Mid Winter Eco Fair, hosted by Hexham Community Centre, was held prior to Christmas and attracted many visitors throughout the day.

As well as attracting a number of traders, there were free workshops held, with all sessions full to capacity.

Among the workshops were those held by Tam Lin Ceilidh Band, the Orla Doogan School of Irish Dance and Studio K Dance, with all being well received.

The event also included an eco cafe and supermarket of surplus stock donated to the centre instead of being put into landfill where customers ‘pay as you feel’.

Clare Mwande, manager of Hexham Community Centre, said: “The whole thing was such a success that we are now looking at running more eco events and even possibly a pay as you feel supermarket on regular basis.”
