POLICE were called after reports of a fight in Hexham on Monday night.

Officers received reports of a group of people fighting on the street on Priestpopple in the town.

Police attended the scene, but those involved had dispersed.

It follows two similar incidents over the weekend, when officers were called to two fights in Hexham on what is often known as Black Eye Friday.

A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: “Shortly before 7.10pm on December 20, police received a report of a fight on Priestpopple, Hexham.

“It was reported a group of people were seen fighting intermittently.

“Shortly before 2.50am, we received a report of a fight outside the Phoenix pub. It was reported a man and woman had assaulted staff.”

As with the incident on Monday, in both cases those responsible left before police arrived. Police said inquiries were ongoing.
