CHRISTMAS has come early for a Hexham entrepreneur with his luxury watches being stocked in Newcastle’s flagship Fenwick store.

Jonny Garrett launched William Wood Watches in 2017, in memory of his grandfather William Wood, a firefighter with the Tyne and Wear Fire Brigade for 25 years.

The company used the crowdfunding platform called Kickstarter which allowed members of the public to pre-order products, the funds of which help launch start-up businesses.

Each watch is created using recycled materials from firefighter’s equipment, including a commemorative coin displayed on the back of the watch which has been crafted from melted antique brass firemen helmets. The straps are Italian leather.

Fenwick will stock the company’s original Valiant collection, which is inspired by classic, timeless styles with a vintage feel from Monday, December 16. Jonny also has plans to display the upcoming Chivalrous collection for shoppers later during the year.

“The fact that Fenwick are stocking the collection feels like a nod to the heritage and history of the North-East brand,” said Jonny. “It’s a really proud moment because I would visit the Fenwick’s Christmas window display with my parents every year as a child, and now my product is in that very store.

“In my opinion, Fenwick is not just a department store; it’s a shopping experience. People come to see the window, do their Christmas shopping and make it a occasion, so I’m excited to see the response we get from our concession.”
