PARTS of the North-East have already been hit by flurries of snow, but more is forecast for the weekend.
The Met Office has issued a weather warning for snow and ice and is in place between 9pm on Saturday and 11am on Sunday.
A spokesman for The Met Office said: "Some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times "Icy surfaces may make accidents and falls more likely.
"A spell of rain and hill snow is likely to affect many areas, with skies clearing at times to allow icy surfaces, although these won't affect all places.
"The snow is most likely above 200 metres elevation and probably focused in the north Pennines and into parts of Scotland."
