A MAN who drove through a give way junction and collided with another car has avoided being jailed for dangerous driving.

Anthony Pinnington was sentenced at Preston Crown Court after committing the offence in Barrow in January.

Judge Heather Lloyd sentenced the 54-year-old to 30 weeks in prison, suspended for two years.

The court was told the incident happened just before 10am on January 2.

Pinnington was said to have been driving his Land Rover Freelander down Dalton Road while the victim was driving down Greengate Street in a Chevrolet.

The two collided after the defendant drove through the junction where the two streets meet.

Pennington, who has changed his name to Jay Johnson, was said to have come to a stop before driving away from the scene without attempting to speak to the victim.

The defendant left the victim’s car with smashed headlights on the nearside and a scuffed and dented bumper.

The court heard how 16 days later officers arrested the man after finding his car park outside his home with a damaged bumper.

Inspections found a brake on one of his front wheels had disconnected and did not work.

He was found to have been driving without a valid licence or insurance.

He admitted dangerous driving and was banned for 18 months and ordered to carry out a 20-day rehabilitation requirement.

Pinnington was given a curfew, ordering him to stay in his house in Aberdeen Street between the hours of 8pm and 6am for the next three months.
