TYNEDALE’S most famous nightclub is set to be transformed into 12 apartments.

Lugano Developments has submitted a planning application to Northumberland County Council seeking permission to turn the former Donnies nightclub on Priestpopple in Hexham into the homes.

The bar is situated above Poundland and Ladbrokes, but the upper two floors of the building have been vacant since Donnies closed around a year ago.

Lugano is seeking permission for 12 apartments to be split between the first and second floors.

The development would consist of a 11 two-bedroom and one one-bedroom apartments with access to a shared landscaped roof garden.

And the existing parking area at the rear of the building would be retained and upgraded to provide a total of 15 car parking spaces.

The developers plan to refresh the existing building and all windows are planned to be replaced with grey finished UPVC.

A report submitted by Lugano read: “The proposals provide for suitable accommodation in well laid-out apartments of adequate proportions in a location that has convenient access to services, facilities and open spaces.”

Members of the public can submit their comments on Northumberland County Council’s online planning portal by December 18.

The application will be determined by the council’s planning committee at a date to be decided next year.
