RUGBY teams at Hexham Middle School are thrilled to have been donated new strips.

The school started embracing rugby last year, and earlier this year both the boys’ and girls’ teams won the plate competitions at the Newcastle Thunder Cup rugby league competition. But due to a lack of strips, they had to borrow some from Queen Elizabeth High School. Thanks to Steve Ball, RFL Benevolent Fund general manager, mentioning their situation to the Harry Sykes Fund, which assists young rugby league players, it has now agreed to donate 40 strips.

PE teacher Karl Barry said: “Now we have got our own strips to go into the new season and it means we can take pride in what we have got.”
